Glass Fusion

To create an Art From Glass original masterpiece is an intricate process. First Matthew starts by creating the “concept” on paper, once the design is created all the components are hand cut from different coloured glass. Two clear pieces of glass are placed together with a base colour powder, like bronze for instance, sandwiched in between, this is used to “pop” the main picture out. Now the cut glass shapes are arranged as per the original design on top of the clear sandwich and then crushed coloured glass or “frit” is added to create effects and texture to the final piece.

The glass is now placed in a kiln and fired up to a temperature of 840°C slowly this turns the glass to a toffee like texture and allows the components to fuse together to create a single solid piece of glass art.

Now the whole piece is cooled for 48 hours and then it is ready to be attached to the hand painted back board and framed ready for you to display in pride of place.
